Manchester City Review (Home-Premier League)

Hi. 🙂

Reviews and previews will follow a basic format:

  • Background
  • Overview (game discussion)
  • Star player(s)
  • Lessons to note, gain or learn

For Monday’s game then:

  • Background

Leicester were/are top, though both us and City have better teams and squads. So a clash of the titans essentially, and whichever team won had a strong psychological edge over the other. Also good for Arsenal to prove both the mental strength and ability to beat the top teams.

  • Overview

Well…City had more possession and shots on goal, but we managed them, and deserved to win. In the first half they had more possession, though we were able to contain them defensively and score on the counter.

After Toure scored, City had some chances, but we could score four. Ramsey, Campbell and Giroud all had opportunities to increase the score.

Moreover, tactically it was spot on by…

Monsieur Wenger…

We soaked up the pressure, and were excellent overall, in defence, midfield and attack. And GK, as Cech didn’t beat the record, but had a solid game.

  • Star player

Campbell imho. He’s come into the team near seamlessly, and is worthy of being a welcome member of the squad. I never really doubted him, and yes he had some poor games, but generally he’s done very well thus far.

  • Lessons to be learnt/gained

Well, we can win by playing tactically. And we can beat the other top four teams. We’ve beaten Leicester, United, and City. Lost to Chelsea/Mr. “players betrayed me”, and drew with Spurs and Liverpool. Not bad so far.

I believe it’s enhanced tactics that have made us challenge, plus players with more mental hardness and…well…the balls.

This surely was a statement to ALL that we mean business this season.

We CAN win the league this year.

Southampton (Away – Premier League)

Background:

We’re currently second, though we need to get a win here if we’re to win the league and push on.

Overview:

We lost here last year, however this year we’re better prepared, with a stronger defence, better GK, and Ozil/Campbell and Giroud in top form.

Soton won’t be easy, though we need to ensure a sound mental attitude. If we do, we can win.

I predict 2-1. or a 1-0. I don’t think it will be a high scoring game, and Soton will look to boss/bully us, though I reckon we’re up to matching this now.

Star players:

Ozil to reach nearer to Thierry Henry’s assist record.

Campbell to continue to shine.

Ramsey to score.

Giroud to score.

Theo to score.

Mertersacker to keep up impressive form.

The Kos(cienly) to be….well the boss….

Lessons to note:

Cech to break clean sheet record.

Possibly go top should Leicester draw or lose.

Possibly gain more space over City..

Perhaps the last game at Utd. for van Gaal. (lol.)
